My most recent assessment notice showed a value that I feel is too high. What can I do?

Take a look at RHOL's page at http://rhol.com/members/invest/PropertyTaxAssessments.htm or, if a member, at the more detailed member-only version at http://rhol.com/members/invest/PropertyTaxAssessments.asp

You can appeal the value with your local county tax assessor. Contact them about the procedure. Pay particular attention to the due dates to file appropriate appeals and what supporting documentation is required (usually comparable sales and property type). Appealing can often be done through the mail, but you must understand the procedures to file a proper appeal - your local assessor can assit you with what you will need - ask lots of questions.
