Placing Debt on Tenant's Credit Report
Posted by: DABR

Hello; Is it correct that a landlord can have a debt, owed by a tenant, placed on the the tenant's credit report without having to take the tenant to small claims court? If so, how is this done? This Tenant skipped out of paying rent and broke the lease agreement. No forwarding address available. New phone number is unlisted. No way to contact, no way to serve tenant. Thanks for your feedback

Hello! I am also interested in a similar situation to DABR's inquiry. I already have a collection judgment (tenant already evicted and wage garnishmet in process), which I thought would automatically be placed on the evicted tenant's credit report. I just checked and it is not listed on there. What do I have to do to get this eviction/coeection judgment on the evicted tenant's credit report? Thank you.

It is usually best to be sure that the debtors social security number is on the recorded judgement to insure that it gets picked up by the credit bureaus.

Yes, I to have the same situation... I have a tenant who has been evicted, I have the court order, however nothing has been collected. How do you get it on the credit report. What if you don’t have a judgement, the tenant moved out, left no forwarding information, and left the place in a mess. thanks for feedback
